Why Are Lawyers So Expensive?

“Why are lawyers so expensive?” people often ask. Even though we’re one of the most affordable bankruptcy law offices around, we get that question a lot. Let us explain why our fees are what they are, and why we believe you’re getting the best deal!

We Work Hard to Keep Prices Low and Service High

We might not be the absolute cheapest, but we believe we offer the best personalized service in the area. Here’s why:

Why Are Lawyers So Expensive?
– Education – $853,748

Becoming a lawyer takes years of education—and a ton of money! Sheree, our attorney, spent 7 years in school to become a lawyer, and her education alone cost nearly $1 million. That means she’s paying more than $5,000 a month in student loans for the next 30 years! Even Kerry, our awesome paralegal, has a pricey undergrad education. On top of that, there are extra costs like bar exams, classes, and certifications every year to keep us up to date and licensed.

Paralegal Costs – At Least $60,000 a Year

Paralegals may seem expensive, but their expertise and the work they do are key reasons why they come with a higher price tag. Paralegals are highly trained professionals who assist attorneys with complex legal tasks like drafting documents, conducting legal research, and managing case files. Their specialized knowledge helps ensure that cases run smoothly and efficiently. Additionally, paralegals help save clients money by handling many of the tasks that would otherwise be done by a lawyer at an even higher rate. The cost reflects their training, attention to detail, and the critical role they play in delivering quality legal services.

Why Are Lawyers So Expensive?
-Office Costs Are At Least $42,000 a Year

Running a law office is no small feat! Between office space, a good website, special software, furniture, and even a cleaning service, we spend thousands of dollars just to keep the office running. And don’t forget about advertising—we spend over $400 per client just to make sure people can find us online!

Our Work for You – 7 to 30+ Hours Per Client

For a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which we charge $1595 for, it can take anywhere from 7 to 10 hours of attorney work, plus at least 3 hours of paralegal work. Some cases take even longer! For Chapter 13 bankruptcies, which cost $6500 over five years, we spend tons of time making sure everything runs smoothly.

Why Are Lawyers So Expensive?
– We’re Not Getting Rich

After you add up the costs of education, office expenses, advertising, and the time we spend on each case, most bankruptcy attorneys make less than $25 an hour. It’s a lot of work, but we do it because we’re here for you. Kerry, for example, answers calls from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day—that’s 91 hours a week—and he definitely isn’t getting paid for all that time!

We Offer the Best Value

Why Are Lawyers So Expensive? – We charge $1595 for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, while some law firms charge up to $3500 for the same service! For Chapter 13, the $6500 fee is set by the district, and it’s considered pretty low. We’re doing everything we can to keep prices affordable while still giving you top-notch service.

So, no, you’re not being overcharged by us. We just want to help, and we hope this clears up why we charge what we do. Thanks for letting us explain!
